To the Editor:

Mr. Nelson, how dare you or the powers that move your pen? The letter from the publisher was a shame. Your cry for “Maytag workers” to save Maytag is perhaps the poorest piece of editorial commentary that I have witnessed during these negotiations.

It would seem you trumpet proposed takebacks without realizing we are merely bargaining for the justified dignities that our proud brothers and sisters have paid for in full.

The community as a whole needs to know that the latest corporate restructuring is the fifth restructuring in five years; perhaps more of a reflection of upper management than that of ineffective, high-cost workers that Ralph Hake wants to portray us as.

Publisher Nelson closed by sayng he was proud to say he lived in Newton, home of Maytag. Both assets. I, too, am proud to live in Newton. I am also a proud member of Local Union 997 of the UAW. Both assets.
