To the Editor:

On Friday’s news at 6 p.m. on channel 8, Mayor Chaz Allen from Newton said the racetrack coming to Newton wouldn’t cost us anything — just some road work.

According to the Newton Daily News, this track will cost residents somewhere between $7 and $9 million.

Which is it?

With a racetrack, there will be more traffic and, almost certainly, a lot of alcoholic consumption, so the city council better reconsider getting rid of any law enforcement.

Sounds like Newton residents will have higher taxes to look forward to over the next 20 years to finance this track. Taxes are already outrageous in Newton. This town isn’t worth the money we pay in taxes. With Maytag letting so many people go, I would think a lot of people will be in default of their taxes real soon so that money for the track (that’s not supposed to cost us anything) may be a little hard to collect.
