Where are the Roosevelts?

To the Editor:

I just heard the reasons why Whirlpool bought Maytag. Let’s see if I understood correctly. Whirlpool paid $2 billion for good workers they don’t need and facilities they can’t use so they can save tens of millions of dollars. Yup, seems perfectly clear in this world of Reaganomics, nee economic boom due to the tax cuts. Rejoice, boom, boom, boom declares Kudlow (CNBC).

Are there no Roosevelts left? Teddy saved us from this kind of thing in the early 20th century. Franklin made jobs appear out of the rubble of the wheelin’ dealin’ economic boom of the ’20s. Teddy delayed the consequence of greed. Franklin dealt with the consequence of greed. Our next governor better be named Roosevelt.
